About the artist...
Amy Van Stensel's career in art began began with portrait and animal drawing commissions at the age of sixteen. After years of drawing in black and white Amy was interested in using color and has been an enthusiastic painter ever since.
Inspired by her love and knowledge of botany, Amy Van Stensel enjoys capturing the patterns and shapes found in plants. Each painting is like an investigation of the plant, focusing on numerous aspects of natural life. One painting may be a study of the growth of the petals, while another may focus on the structures hidden inside. Each piece is representational in form, however the main goal is to capture the beauty and uniqueness of each natural object studied.
To create her pieces, Amy Van Stensel begins by taking photographs in the Rocky Mountains and botanical gardens across the country. As a starting point, she researches each plant using reference books or previous knowledge from research experience. The finished piece is an aesthetic recognition of each items unique natural form and function.
As a member of the Art Students League of Denver and the Colorado Artist Guild, Amy Van Stensel is broadening her presence in the Denver art community. If you are interested in the artist's work please e-mail her with inquiries.
