"Mountain Paintbrush", initial sketch

To start this project I drew in my initial sketch with burnt sienna.

The underpainting

This painting is being done as an experiment. Usually I do the underpainting in colors similar to the finished product. Instead I used cadmium orange and cerulean blue to establish the warm and cool areas, and then added blue black and burnt sienna to add in value (light and dark).

Adding color...

At this point I am pretty happy with the sky and mountains in the distance. The foliage and paintbrush (flower) in the foreground will be my next area of focus.

Adding details...

I have been working on layering the paint to add more dimesion to the colors and have also been adding more details to the paintbrush flower. One of my main goals at this point is to capture the glowing light from dissapearing storm.

Getting close...

I've added more atmospheric layers to the sky, more details to the plants and I'm almost done. The final image should appear soon...

Keep watching!

Every week I add more pictures. Check back to see my work progress!

"Flowerscapes"

My current series is focusing on painting plants with an emphasis on their natural habitats. The result is a painting of a plant that feels more like a landscape rather than a still life painting.

Enjoy watching the work in progress!
