Man Painting...

My brother Dan has been complaining that I do too many "feminine" paintings, so this is in honor of him. I am actually going to call this "Murphy's View", named after the school librarian who generously let me use a photo he took from his downtown balcony. The upper right hand corner is actually a bit darker and more purple. Because the painting was so wet it was hard to get a good image.

Building on...

The buildings have now emerged near the horizon line. I will go back and define many of the structures, keeping some of them loosely painted. The color of the sky is actually somewhere inbetween this image and the one above. Getting a good image in my studio can be a little it of a challenge...

Where did the lupines go?

I have been taking a little break from this painting because I was getting a little frustrated with all of the details in the flower stalks of the lipine. I actually work on about 3 paintings at any given point. This allows me to paint for 6-8 hours at a time without getting too tired of one particular piece. Since I have't worked on this piece in a week or two I thought I should post someting else in this section.

Keep watching...

I will post more of this piece as I progress soon. Thanks again for taking the time to visit my studio!

A little out of date...

I am taking a brief detour from oil painting and revisiting the world of scientific and botanical illustration. Unfortunately, I keep forgetting to take pictures of my pieces as I work on them! I will vow to keep better records of my work in progress if you promise to come back and see my updated pictures soon...
